Mutt Strutt

Get ready for the 6th Annual Mutt Strutt to benefit the Halifax Humane Society! You and your dog can get your paws in the sand and participate in the 5K walk on the Daytona Beach beach – April 2, 2016!

Put Your Paws in The Sand!

The goal for this event is to have over 2,000 participants on the beach and to raise over $50,000 for the Halifax Humane Society animals.

This is a non-competitive run or walk. Entry to the event is free, but if you register for $25, you receive a T-shirt and a drink ticket (alcoholic or non-alcoholic). Also, you and your friends can form a fundraising team to support animals in need. Publish your goals on Facebook and Twitter and link to the HHS Facebook Page

So take advantage of the only day during the year that you can have your dogs on the Daytona beach! All pets must be leashed.

Registration opens at 8AM at the Daytona Bandshell. The race starts at 9AM and goes till noon. You can park in the Ocean Walk Garage across A1A.

Florida Nature at Its Best!

Smyrna Dunes Park

Here is another one of our beautiful nature preserves – the Smyrna Dunes Park. Whether you are visiting, have just relocated, or are a resident, this park on the tip of the New Smyrna Beach peninsula offers many different options.

You can arrive at the Dunes Park by land or by sea. It is spread over 73 acres of pristine land and is surrounded by water on three sides. Waters from the Indian River flow through Ponce Inlet and into the Atlantic Ocean providing a variety of fishing or swimming venues for you. The park also provides a unique opportunity for naturalists, ecologists, students, and the general public to see a wide variety of animals, birds, reptiles, marine life and vegetation in their natural habitat.

The park consists of five ecosystems (ocean, river, dunes, scrub zone, saltwater marsh). The principal system is vast sand dunes. To protect the sensitive sand dunes from foot traffic, two miles of elevated walkways, picnic areas, pavilions and an observation tower were built, allowing visitors to travel through the park in a natural environment, while preserving the dunes.

Smyrna Dunes Park is one of a few county parks where you can bring your dog! However, pets must be leashed at all times.
