Wine Walk on Flagler Avenue

Now that it is about to get cooler (any minute!), let’s take a look at a popular outdoor activity: Wine Walk!

Every fourth Saturday, in the seaside town of New Smyrna Beach, there is a progressive wine tasting on the famous Flagler Avenue. The next one is this coming Saturday on August 27.

For $25 you get 20 tickets, which are good for 2 oz. wine samples at all participating venues. There are several outdoor kiosks that sell the tickets: Exit Realty (Flagler & Peninsula), at the tent at Flagler Avenue and Cooper Street, or at the corner of Peninsula Drive and Flagler Avenue.

The wines range from 1-4 tickets, depending on quality, price, etc. But theoretically, you can get 20 samples for your 20 tickets. In addition, you receive a keepsake glass without which you cannot get your wine!

Keep that glass and bring it next time – you will save $5.

The progressive wine tasting starts at 1pm and runs till 7pm. Participating venues include Clancy’s Cantina, Om Bar and Chill Lounge with live music, Peanuts Bar, Flagler Tavern, and many more. A Wine Walk flag indicates the venues, and you also received a so-called passport, listing all the stops along with their offerings and how many tickets they cost.

Not surprisingly, you must consume your wine at the location where you got it – so no strolling up and down Flagler Avenue with a full wine glass.

Needless to say, you can eat at many of the establishments. A personal recommendation is That’s Amore – around the corner from Flagler on Pine Street. They also offer Wine Walk wines (all one ticket and all very good). Plus, you can enjoy delectable Italian dishes while sitting in a lively environment. Flagler Tavern serves up bar fare, but also has a fine dining restaurant on the premises. Some wine stops will have cheese and crackers for their patrons.

When you go – be sure to hydrate between wine stops. Wear comfortable shoes and sun protection. And prepare to have a fantastic time in a great party atmosphere on Flagler Avenue!

Lastly, Wine Walk is always paired with Art Walk (1-5PM), which is also on Flagler Avenue and takes you through some of the beautiful galleries along the way. Wine and Art – you can’t go wrong!

COOL HOMES FOR PEOPLE WITH BOATS: PONCE INLET SOUTH EDITION

What kind of boat do you have? Or, rather, what kind of boat do you WISH you had? Do you see yourself sailing your Mason 44 from your dock to the Bahamas or British Virgin Islands? Do you want to speed your fishing boat to the Gulf Stream and make a haul? Is your idea of heaven cruising on the Halifax River or Indian River Lagoon with your friends in a roomy pontoon boat? Or, do you yearn for the quiet of dipping your paddle in the water and exploring Spruce Creek and landing some mangrove snapper?  Clearly, there are many different ways to enjoy boating, and there are just as many different places to put your dock so your fantasy can become your reality.  If you are ready, then you need me, a great realtor!

The focus of this week's blog is on the fantastic homes I have run across in the New Smyrna Beach Area, which offer the best docks for the many purposes listed above. Check out these beauties!

Riverside Drive
On Riverside Drive in New Smyrna Beach you can have a small powerboat, pontoon boat or personal watercraft docked at your home with access to the Intracoastal Waterway.

PLUS there is a gorgeous three story guesthouse with an open kitchen, lots of porches, and birds eye views of the NSB Yacht Club. The main house has 3 Bedrooms and 2 Baths and was built in 1940. It has been beautifully renovated with an up-to-date kitchen, glossy wood floors, and stunning views of the water. Walk or bike to the restaurants on Canal Street and the Farmer’s Market. Priced at less than $1Million, the water and close proximity to the Inlet, guest house, and cool neighborhood make this a great deal for the right people! The realtor for this listing is Pat Collardo of Collardo Real Estate.

Indian River Lagoon

The Indian River Lagoon is a beautiful, quiet place to have a pontoon boat. This property is on a navigable canal with a boathouse with a table to eat crab and boiled shrimp.  The day I visited, I was seduced by the cooling breeze off the water, the shady and calm, green canal, and the manatee who disappeared before I could take her picture! Your family and friends will love your new weekend getaway, or winter vacation home. Priced at $374,000, you can afford to spruce it up AND buy that boat you’ve been wanting. Realtor for this listing is Karrieanne Para of Collardo Real Estate.

Beach Side!

Located on the beach side of New Smyrna Beach, this three-story Mediterranean house has a dock for your sail boat AND a dock for the power boat, which you will need because you are so close to Ponce De Leon Inlet and Disappearing Island! Beach side means the sand is a short jaunt away, and trendy Flagler Avenue with it’s restaurants, boutiques and night life is close by. If $2 Million is in your budget, this dock home is for YOU!
The realtor for this listing is Erin Schwarb of Keller Williams Realty.

The Magic of New Smyrna Beach

New Smyrna Beach, known as NSB by locals, combines historical roots, a charming downtown, and a hip surf scene and turns it into a magical place. The town with roughly 24,000 permanent residents lies on the Atlantic coast with waterfront along Ponce Inlet and Indian River, giving access to a lot of water. Surfers from all over the world are drawn to NSB, as well as other visitors, and new residents. The fact that NSB is the shark capitol of the world (yes, the world) does little to deter from the many things it has to offer.

Canal Street

Canal Street is the heart of downtown NSB. It has many historic buildings, quaint shops, wonderful restaurants, The Hub – a vibrant art center with exhibits and shows  , the weekly Farmer’s Market, the First Saturday Art Stroll, festivals, shows, and more! Parking is free and plentiful making strolling and exploring easy.

 Flagler Avenue

This vibrant street runs five lively blocks from the river right to the beach. There old-school t-shirt and souvenir shops, keeping up with the beach town flair. But you will also find urban coffee houses, charming wine bar, fabulous restaurants, a speakeasy, and more. Flagler Avenue is also host to many festivals, parties, and themed walks all year round. Most notable is the Fourth-Saturday Wine Walk, which is a progressive wine tasting. It costs $25 including a tasting glass and the walk takes you up and down the entire stretch of Flagler Avenue.

Whether you live in Central Florida full time or part time – or if you are visiting – make sure to check out New Smyrna Beach and all its happenings.
