Farm to Table Lunches and Dinners are memorable events. Whether you live here, are relocating to the area, or are visiting, you should definitely try one of our Volusia County Farm Events. 

·         You eat al fresco in a beautiful setting.

·         You enjoy dishes made from foods predominantly grown on the local farm hosting the event.

·         You get to know your local farmer/s.

·         You will go on a farm tour.

·         Often you can buy produce while you’re there.

·         The atmosphere is amazing – and so is the food.

Two such events are coming up this Saturday, March 28! 

 

Green Flamingo Farm is in Oak Hill.  With 3 acres in production, Green Flamingo aims to introduce the community to an amazingly tasty and beautifully unique way of eating.  Their beautiful produce can be found at the New Smyrna Beach Farmers’ Market on Saturday mornings, the Brevard County Farmers’ Market on Thursdays, and through their Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Program from August to May. 

 The dinner at Green Flamingo is a rustic farm to table event. They will serve foods that have been harvested freshly from fields, source local seafood, dairy, and other goodies from other local farms. The food will be prepared right at the farm. Farm tours will take place during hors d'oeuvres to show their fields and educate visitors about where the food comes from. This meal that will be served is all about fresh and seasonal ingredients.  It will be featuring homemade cheese, home brewed beers, and the best produce and proteins that the farm has to offer.

100 Years Tomazin Farms!

 Tomazin’s is a 3^rd generation farm, founded in 1915, now operated by father and son, who are also known as the Barefoot Farmers. And yes, they actually do all their farming barefoot, in any weather. The Tomazin’s farm grows more than 70 different vegetables throughout the year, including broccoli, carrots, kale, and cabbage, as well as the most beautiful lettuce you will ever taste. Several restaurants, including Cress and Dalley in the Alley in downtown DeLand, buy ingredients from the farm. Tomazin also delivers to Florida Hospital, and they can be found on Saturday mornings at the New Smyrna Beach Farmers Market. 

The farm to table dinner runs from 5-9PM and costs $75 per person:

Concerts in Your Home

Do you like music?

What could be better than talented artists performing for you and your friends in the comfort of your home? Concerts in Your Home (CIYH) is a unique organization that brings lovers of music and artists together to create intimate listening opportunities. Best of all, you can host a house concert regardless where you live! From Flagler to Edgewater, our beautiful coastal area is ideal for touring artists to perform in an intimate venue.

 You can sign up for free on the site as a host and browse through the many artists that might be touring in your area. You can listen to samples, read their bios, and choose the genre and the artist/s that you truly thing you will enjoy. CIYH has artists of all genres – many singer/songwriters who perform original music, bluegrass, country, jazz, blues, duets, solo acts, and more. These artists play all manner of instruments from guitar and keyboard to ukulele, washboard, and banjo.

By scheduling a house concert an artist, you bridge their time between gigs, give them an opportunity to perform in your home for your friends, give them a place to stay for a night, and perhaps a meal, too!

Technically, house concerts are free. You are not selling tickets. You are not running a business. And the best way make it possible for the artist to receive a bit of income, is to have a “suggested donation.” between $10-20 for her or him.

You can discuss particulars with the artist/s once you have scheduled a house concert. Generally, a musician will do two 30-40 minute sets with a 20 minute break in between. The music is not or only mildly amplified – so there’s no need to worry about neighbors. You can have snacks or "real" food for your guests, or ask people to bring a little something. Your artist will enjoy a free night’s stay at your house, be it in a guest room or on the sofa. 

Most importantly though, you and your friends will experience music in ways that are completely new and absolutely memorable. Having an artist tell his or her story through music, right in your living room, is fun and amazing. It is one of the best ways to enjoy live music.

Whom do you invite? Friends, neighbors, co-workers, family – anyone who enjoys live music! Generally 15-50 people will attend – depending on what space you have available. You can host the concert in your living room, family room, yard, patio, basement, wherever you have enough room to set up a bunch of chairs and leave a little bit of space for the artist. Even if the concert is on a weeknight, you are likely to be finished before 10pm, and you will start your next day invigorated from the prior evening’s enjoyment!

Culture in Daytona Beach

The Daytona Beach Symphony Society

For 63 years, the Daytona Beach Symphony Society (DBSS) has been bringing world-class musical performance to our area. If you are relocating to the Florida east coast from a big city, fear not! Culture abounds in the greater Daytona Beach Area!

During the last season, which just ended, wildly famous and unbelievably talented orchestras and soloists performed for our community, including the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Russian State Symphony Orchestra, and the Mariinsky Orchestra. Soloists included violin virtuosos Pinchas Zukerman and Ray Chen, pianist Vladimir Feltsman, and many more. Even the Russian National Ballet Theatre performed at the Peabody Auditorium   in Daytona! So you can see, just from the most recent season, the DBSS can easily compete with much larger cities.

 Community Involvement

The DBSS offers more than just a night of breathtaking music. They support many outreach programs: With focus on at-risk children, YES (Youth Experiencing Symphony) introduces over 3,000 local students to classical music each year. Research has soundly proven the importance of the arts in students’ academic success. Therefore this program is relevant on many levels.

DBSS also reaches out to senior citizens, offering reduced fare transportation services. So if you are on a fixed income, you can still experience the joys of beautiful music!

Family discounts are offered to adults attending with children. They receive a  discount on adult tickets and pay $10 for their children. A family of four can attend any of our concerts for an affordable price. And area students can attend performances for $10.
